WWI US Army Ambulance Corps grouping #1. This is an US Army issue mess kit, with trench art. Carved on the lid is a Rooster (symbol of the Ambulance Corps) and a Medical Caduceus. On the inside of the lid is the name "Prunes"....I don't know if this is actually the Soldiers name, or some kind of inside joke the Soldier had. We all know what prunes do to us if we eat too many!
This came with a uniform, campaign hat, over seas hat, Veterans grouping hat, and 2 medical arm bands. One was crisp as if new, the other is well worn, and probably seen lots of death. See my other posts for more of this grouping.
