My father bought this from a wine-o back in the 1940's after he got out of the military. He told me that they would drink the wine, then build the ship inside the bottle to sell for money to buy wine, and the repeat the process of drinking the wine, making the ship in the bottle to make money for wine.

@Scottscuff, I don't think my dad would make the story up. He had just got out of the military (WWII) and was working as a police officer in San Diego. You would be surprised what an alcoholic can do when they have a drink in them, knowing what they are doing is going to buy their next drink.
