    My Grandfather, Pietro di Salvatore Monaca(1893-1966), received this medal in the battle of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in April 1916, because with his machine gun, he stopped an attack of the german troops against the last defensive line of the Italian troops.

      Sounds like your grandfather was a heroic soldier.

      What you have is a WW1 Victory Medal.
