In the 30s-40s desire to make a lamp out of every vase in the house, my grandmother broke this vase. It had two handles on the side. It has lovely form and color. Though the dress in the scene is more mid 19th c. the swags, color and stars of the rest of the detailing feels more Federal? I can't find a maker's mark (but a hole was drilled in the bottom so it might have been drilled away) the painting in the scene is unsigned. I'm sure this was made sometime in the 19th c and I find it interesting that the scene--then--would have been so contemporary. I see other pieces from that time but they are of classical or idealized themes/scenes. Was there a movement to depict contemporary domestic scenes in fine pottery?
