Introduced in May 1931, the Hammond "Gregory" was part of the trend of architecturally inspired Skyscraper forms in product design in late 1920s and early '30s. The hugely popular Gregory was a Hammond bestseller, available in either black bakelite with a silver face, or 'walnut' bakelite with a gold face. It was designed by George H. Stephens who, with Robert Budlong, was responsible for the design of most of the Hammond Clock Company's early lineup. Unfortunately, the numerals on this clock are quite worn.

I find it interesting how some sources say that the brown and gold version of the Gregory was made in greater numbers than the black and silver version, yet the black seems to be more commonly found these days.

From my experience hunting on eBay, flea markets, etc, I'd guess the ratio of surviving black ones to brown is abt 4:1. Can't imagine where all those other brown Gregories might be hiding....
