I picked this up because I have no idea what it is - or was - used for, it was inexpensive and has a label, was just very curious, as always :) It obviously had a purpose and probably sits on a vanity, perhaps part of a set?

I only recognized it as a hat pin 'cause I've seen many over the years with the pins stored. So it looks like you'll need to start a hat pin collection, as they can be quite striking. The RS is for: "Reinhold Schlegelmilch was a porcelain manufacturer in Suhl, Germany, founded in the 19th century." Other than that I know very little about this mark; tho' the mark does seem to have been 'misused' over the years.
Oh gosh, another collection, lol. As much as I like this hat pin, I was more curious than anything...to me it wasn't a 'wow' find...more an educational investment but I do love old things with history, now I know :). Murano and antique/unique glass really rocks my boat.

I've just visited lots of antiques malls over the years and always interested in learning more. Over time I've learned a number of websites that are more reliable than others and try to confirm info from independent sources. I love learning from others here at CW and enjoy reading the many stories.
The RS label is bogus-- this is a MODERN made piece. These are often sold as authentic RS pieces after the sticker is removed. These and similar fake RSP items were all over antique malls in the 80s and 90s when Prussia prices were at their highest.
The feel of real RSP is the easiest way to tell it from these clunky repros.
I hope that you didn't pay much.
