Check out this site, it will show you how to count your jewels. Also, I can't read anything on the watch from the pics. Post all the writing on the watch and someone might be able to help you determine a date.

Illinois Watch Co. Springfield Ill. Also in the guts the number 108718
Illinois Watch Co was in business from 1869 to 1927.... so thats a start!
From the serial number (108718) the watch can be dated to 1876!
