I bought this at an auction last night. Is it a prisoner shackle? Any info on age or value? I thought it was perfect for my office.

    Originals are worth some money.

MOST of what is found today in antique malls and at auctions are modern.

Key to making a determination is a detailed inspection: Is the chain hand forged? Is the rusting just a modern surface rust applied to give the appearance of age? How is the chain connected to the ball?

All that I see in your photos would indicate this is a Modern creation (MY Opinion).

Thanks. Here are the only markings I find. Posted pics of markings. Key twists to lock it closed.
