trying to see if anyone knows about paper mache furniture, my mom feels this may be a table made that way. Lightweight. Not sure how old

Hand carved soft wood not paper mache . It has a Asian look to wood and design. Is there inlay of white on front where flowers are ? I see white area's and what are the metal parts under table ? Are those protruding screws ?
They made these like crazy in the 70s.
