About Antique and Vintage Mah Jong Sets

Mah Jong may be at least 2000 years old, but no one really knows where it came from. What we do know is that a Mah Jong craze came to America and peaked in the early 1900's.

Mah Jong tiles often came packaged in ornate boxes made of wood or (if you were rich) stone. The tiles themselves have been made of wood, ivory, jade, stone, bamboo, and countless other materials. Collectors view the tiles as art: many were engraved, handsomely painted, or even inlaid with their characters and designs. Look for original or unique designs, condition and craftsmanship.
