The color of this vase appears black at first glance but it's really a deep purple if you back light it. I believe it's called "Amethyst" glass. I really like the shape. It's not very large only 6 1/2" tall and not very heavy. The surface looks like it's finely grooved and the bottom is a bit rough but there are no marks. Another piece of mystery glass for the old collection. -Mike-
