Art Deco Decanter

I don't know what it is, but I have a fascination for decanters of the Art Deco period! I have several different types in my collection. I think it's something to do with the fact that such a utilitarian type of object can be turned into something so stylish. These are basically thermoses for hot and cold beverages.

I recently acquired this one in near mint condition. I think it's beautiful with its depression green and cream enamel, and chrome accents. The black glass stopper is the cherry on the top. This was produced around 1936. It was manufactured by Landers, Frary, & Clark in New Britain, CT. It was part of their Universal "Dekantor" line, and the set came with a matching enameled tray and black footed glass. The shape of it reminds me of an "I Dream of Jeannie" bottle with a Middle-Eastern influence.

An advertisement for this product at the time stated: "To the smart business executive, the clever hostess, and the modern-minded homemaker, these Universal Vacuum Dekantor Sets, styled in all the gracious beauty of today's most exacting taste, present a new elegance in personal appointments." Oh yeah.
