The stars of my cousin, Anne Nichol's, film version of her play "Abie's Irish Rose" in the Paramount Commissary seated at the table with actor Richard Dix (right). The back of the photo reads:
Film Folk Must Eat...Richard Dix, Nancy Carroll and Charles Rogers peruse the menu of the new Paramount studio cafe, where they meet at lunch. Dix is working in "Sporting Goods" while Miss Carroll and Rogers are in their wedding regalia for "Abie's Irish Rose," in which Rogers plays Abie and Miss Carroll is Rosemary Murphy. In the background from left to right are Fred Kohler, Victor Schertzinger, director, George Bancroft, Richard A. Rowland, vice-president and general manager of First National Pictures, Clifford Hawley, president of First National and Adolf Zukor, president of Paramount Famous Lasky.
Another interesting factor is the person who owned this photo previously was named Dion McGregor a songwriter who had achieved some fame but his dreams made him famous:
"McGregor, you see, was a somniloquist, or sleep-talker. Each night he narrated fantastic, surreal dreams so loudly that his roommate (and songwriting partner) Michael Barr could hear them quite clearly. With McGregor's permission, from 1960-67, Barr recorded about 300 of Dion's dreams onto reel-to-reel tapes. In 1964 Decca Records released The Dream World of Dion McGregor, an acclaimed album of them with cover art by Edward Gorey." -USA Today
