Thank you all for your help. My mum bought this in a jumble sale about 40 years ago and gave it to me. It probably cost her a shilling or something and now I am scared it may be worth a lot and I need to insure it! I've been scouring the internet but can't find one like it or identify which artist made it. I like to know these things! I see Amazon has a book by Peter Hyland but I can't afford it at £45.

A public library in Brighton may well have the Peter Hyland book.

      It's a real treasure.

There are others here on CW who may well have the book too. Can I ask around in some of the Facebook pages and give them a link to this page ???

Vetraio may be right ! Similarities with this mark of Della Robbia:

Hi Vetraio50! Many thanks for all your extremely helpful information. Please feel free to link to this page. I am most grateful for any help. If it turns out to be of any significant value I will sell it as I am now a retired secretary and pensioner with a very insignificant pension pot!
