    I have acquired this as is and don't know if this had a base to it or not.. On one of the pics I thought was a scratch but I think it is a makers mark. It is made of heavy metal. Really cool as is.

    Any identification info would help.

      Yes, there is a missing bottom half. What you have is the lid. The metal is pewter, not cast iron. I see many of these in my travels through thrift shops and flea markets.

      Thank you for the key word pewter. I have spotted a wide range of sizes on eBay. They are vintage. They are made by Win on Co. And I see now what bottom is missing. Thanks again.

      Yes its Pewter and I believe that it could be an egg coddler.

      Thanks. Now I need to research we they needed to coddle eggs. I love to find out history's way of Life before technology. My Mother grew up in this way of life and I wish I would have asked more about it. I appreciate the information.
