I was at an auction across the street from my house about ten years ago. There was a school teacher that was selling her estate and moving away. I bought one item that day and it was this picture of the first president of the United States. I cleaned it up and it looks nice hanging by my desk in the living room.

Spooky picture, what is all the white at the bottom? how old do you think it is? i have a few old american stamps with this same image on them, they came from a very old album and were stuck down with little tape hinges that had come unstuck, so we put them in a envelope and stuck them in a box in the attic, only found them last week when having a clear out, what a coinsidence to see this portrait after finding my stamps, must be an omen.
Dont forget i live in England where this image is not so common, there where quite a few other presidents among them too.
It's a reproduction of Gilbert Stuart's unfinished 1796 painting of George Washington.
(You probably know that already!)
We all know that SMD, but thatnks any how as susan probably did not know .........and just for her benefit she should know that almost every American School room ( at least in the 50's) had one of these.............

This site is great for learning about things you guys over the pond know all about from highschool! As a supposedly Professional Artist (In UK), I did not know of this obviously important Artist. Now I must go off and research just why it wasn't finished...lol
BTW:
A little off-topic: Nice Harley in you thumnail picture, VERY nice! I presume you are a rider/Biker, mine is a Norton Commando 750 (1972)
Thank you Hems303 for the love on the George Washington picture! Yes you can learn things on this site, there are alot of knowledgeable people on here. Sounds like you will fit right in. Welcome! :-)
