This is a small metal box, fairly crudely soldered together that I just love. I used it for my collection of lead soldiers, which I also like way more than a middle-aged woman should. The box is incredibly heavy -- about 5 pounds with the lid -- and fairly small -- about 4x6". I am intrigued by the inscription: ALGOA 2-2-82 but have no idea what it means. I also kind of love the soldering which creates what look like scars across the lid and bottom of the box.

Looks like a project for somebody learning how to weld.

That makes sense. Do you think they passed the class?

      I really doubt it . LOL !

2-2- 82 would be the date it was made... as a guess... a good one though... :)

GOA -- I would surmise is the name of the metal company -- "Goa Metals is an independent, family-owned Indian company." -- and Al -- which is a later addition, would be the guys name... so I would assume...

Goa, India is a state located in the South western region of India. There are at least three metal related companies in the state of Goa. No offence Trunkman, but I doubt "Al" is the name of "the guy". What guy?
There's a large steel company named Algoa Steel located in South Africa. Not that Algoa Steel necessarily had/has anything to do with Jean123's metal box.

Thanks Gillian -- That makes a lot of sense . I appreciate your input.

You're welcome, not that I helped much to identify your box. ;)

Well just for continued fun of discussion -- and yes Algoa steel could work too -- just that the GOA is a clearly different stamp than the "AL" that proceeds it -- the "AL" is a hand stamped mark the same as the date -- different entirely than the factory mark GOA. Judging by the box just speculating that the "guy" who I was referring to would be the person who made the box and stamped the date by hand and placed his initials on it. I concede -- all speculative -- :)
