This Victorian glass rose bowl has led a long & interesting double life - having been at some point converted into a "make - do" pincushion.
It is made from pale blue cased glass, with applied decoration of leaves in clear glass encircling the middle, as well as clear applied feet.
The rose bowl measures 10 cm tall, 5.5 cm across the crimped, turned in top rim, & 8.5 cm across the footed base.
The pincushion appears as though it was added some time ago, as the plush - type fabric, & decorative ric - rac trim look rather vintage. As do the pins.
Probably Bohemian origin, & a fun flea market find.

Many thanks, racer4four - I agree, it is nice to see innovative reuse of vintage items. there is a great blog about antique items with repairs called Past Imperfect. Highly recommended if you're interested in the creative salvaging of china, glass, etc. The Victorian repairs using staples are fascinating...the collector who writes the blog owns a Bohemian glass tumbler that used to be mine...it was repaired with both staples & had a chip filled in with metal.

      Thanks also Scott!
And Vintagefran - the double leaves are a treat, aren't they! I have several rose bowls, but this is the only one I have with such elaborate applied work.
