A fine gent in his stylish Buffalo Coat. I am going to guess the coat is a puffy photography studio prop to help tenderfeet look like they've been to the Wild West.

    Nice photo and nice coat.

A warning: I have had photos copied here and then reprints listed on ebay. You may want to look into watermarking your images.

It is a tintype and would be hard to duplicate.

Probably not worth it to copy as a tin.

It would look nice/ sell well as a cabinet card!

I trust two things. One, that no one is going to copy my buffalo coat tintype. Two, that anyone who collects tintypes should know how to tell a fake. And there ARE fakes, but not too many yet. I imagine Native American and Civil War images for the most part, maybe some baseball players. I've collected tintypes a while, only had one fake. I also wrote a book about them "The Painted Backdrop" which you can find on Blurb. Oh...and anyone who makes and sells a fake photograph is not worth my attention for any reason. So don't.

The image would look awkward as a cabinet card.

    Jim,

I just wanted to give you a heads up that there are scammers who use this site to create REPRINT images.

I didn't appreciate it that someone was making money off of an image that I owned, when I didn't authorize a reprint.

    Thanks for posting it.

You can report the sellers on e-bay who are doing this. Have you? Report them and call e-bay.

    Yes-- several times.

After looking at some images, I am not convinced that this is a buffalo coat.

Here is an example of a typical buffalo coat:

    There are pretty dramatic differences.
