Hi, someone recently gave me this marshmallow sofa and I would like to know if it is an original by George Nelson or a cheaper reproduction as I'm not sure what to look for someone at some point as painted the leather or vinyl white and spray painted the frame black I've taken pictures of the back and bottom thanks for reviewing/reading

To me it looks like yours is not the same, and I don't think phillips head screws were used in the 1950's, or the hex head screws either, so unless it was totally redone, which would ruin the value anyway, I don't think yours is an original, no expert, just my thoughts on it! :^)
Also notice the alternating 4 5 pattern that creates the look, yours is in line 4 4, 5 5 making a stacked look! :^)
I agree with Bill - Nelson Marshmallow cushions have upholstered backs, not to mention the incorrect cushion alignment. It's a safe bet this is not a Nelson.
