On the left is Civil War veteran Valentine LaPoint and his wife and daughter.
We think this was taken at a CA 1895 New York army camp.
National Guard? He lived with his Civil War wounds until his death in 1913.

Interesting images. HDS shows him with his right leg being amputated:

Residence was not listed; 22 years old.
Enlisted on 12/7/1861 at Oswego, NY as a Private.
On 12/7/1861 he mustered into "A" Co. NY 81st Infantry
He Re-enlisted on 1/1/1864
He was discharged for wounds on 6/16/1865
He was listed as:
* Wounded 6/3/1864 Cold Harbor, VA (Severe wound in right leg, amputated)
Legs looks good in your photograph. If you are confident with the identification-- could be a case of a mistake in the unit history.

Scott,
These photos and many other items came right from his former family.
He had a prosthesis, and so managed to work at the Albany, N.Y. armory
until the day before he died in 1913. In some photos one can tell that
he favored his hurt leg though. I even have some of his papers concerning
his coming back from his losing the lower leg.

He did well-- usually a missing leg or portion stands out in this era. I can't tell from the images that he has any issues!

Yes, he certainly did do well. Also, I have his newspaper obituary from 1913 that tells us that when he died in 1913 he still had at least two "rebel" bullets still in his body.
As a former co-worker of mine would have said...He had some help from above.
