Went down to the Sallies this morning for a look not expecting much as there hasn't been a lot turning up at any of the op shops that are particularly interesting of late ( except the Sowerby boat!!) . Looked at the area where they have glass, homeware and collectibles and there was nothing of interest for me and as I turned to go out my eyes fell upon this. I needed someone to pinch me as I stood looking at this for quite a while....my mouth was probably open. Unfortunately the hinge pin is missing but as a TV programme of the 70s said "we have the technology to rebuild him", well I have a lathe :)
I asked the guy in the shop who does the heavy lifting to give me a hand to lift the top off so I could have a good look at everything and while not mint it's in great condition for it's age, means I won't have panic attacks every time someone puts something on it.
I said I would buy it although I had nowhere to put it at the moment, but for $70 it was going home with me!!
Its a workday and where I work is on the same street although I'm still on holiday so I went down and got one of the guys to grab a ute and a trailer and we picked it up and took it home. Once there I said to Toby my workmate "we'll quickly take it around onto the back lawn dump it and run"..........as we finished putting it down I looked up and realised it was too late Her Indoors was standing at the ranch slider to the conservatory with hands on hips watching us ............opps :)
I went back to the Sallies to ask again about the hinge pin and as luck would have it their pick up/delivery truck was just unloading some gear, the guys confirmed there was no hinge pin but it came from a lady who said it was her Grandmothers.

Great table! You could have a glass top made for it to protect it. Although, that center pillar will still make a great scratching post...

I have one like it. England ca. 1820. In Europe they're not uncommon. Like Kevin too !

Hi Golgatha, yes I see it on your Christmas post 4 years ago it looks very similar. Mine is missing the hinge pin can you tell me if yours is a one piece or 2 and maybe add a photo to the original post please.

Hi BHIFOS. I've added the photo you wished. My hinge pin is in one piece. You'll have to have a specialist make a replica of the missing one.

Thank you the only pictures I could find on Mr Google the object of the photo wasn't the hinge pin so this is a much better shot. Also knowing it is one pin not two is a great help. Thanks again for your time!!! :)

Ratbags of the World Unite! She is a handsome lady and I'm sure well worth some occasional mischief.
