Pictured is a German putz Santa with sleigh and reindeer which was made for export to the U.S. before the war. The sleigh is cardboard and mounted on a wooden base which was painted and covered with mica flakes. The Santa is composition with felt clothing, and has a rabbit fur beard. He carries a sprig of feather tree, and has wooden toys in the back of the sleigh. The reindeer is composition and is hand painted. These would be used in putz displays, or as a decoration under the tree or on the mantle. Many time these will be found broken after having been used for decades.
