Exactly, I want to know why back then, the boys wore a dress
For the younger children, I believe it was a diaper/ use of facilities convenience.
For this one, I don't know-- it sure looks like a male, but I guess it could be a boyish looking girl?
Scott
He is most definetly a boy! I will try a close up photo of face if I can figure out how to post another into this discussion! Also the stance - very not feminine. I'd guess his age between 8-12 - and he does not look real happy LOL.
Certainly is interesting, especially when you blow it up and look from his sideburn down his jaw line.
I will have to try that and take a look! Someone looking at it in person said 'maybe it is a girl' but I am 99.9% sure it is not! Someone suggested maybe he was in a 'play' or 'pageant' but he looks miserable - A mystery to be sure.
My best guess, young male Operatic performer/singer. Not uncommon for pre adolescent male singers to perform as females. And something about the green mount board and faux background make me suspect United Kingdom.
Anyway just some random thoughts
