This is a different kind of little moped. It's a 1978 AMF RaodMaster with a rear mounted McCulloch engine that drives the wheel off of a stone drum that contacts the rear tire. It's raised & lowered by means of a lever mounted in the rear above the engine. It's white-knuckle driving at its best, when you're moving along at a blurring 20mph, driving one-handed, turned halfway around and trying to work the engine lever with the other hand! Truly a 'ped made for the thrill-seekers!
Some few refer to this AMF RaodMaster as the "Harley Davidson" moped. That might make it sound more collectible, but Harley had nothing to do with this moped. AMF did own Harley at this time, but that did not mean that Harley was part of everything that AMF made. Sure Harley had their name on snowmobiles & golf cars at this time, but not these mopeds. Hmmm, maybe I'd like to find one of those ultra rare AMF Harley Davidson bowling balls! HaHa

Some of these were labeled as Harley Davidson bikes I have seen them more than once.
I've seen many of the Italian/Harley moped-type scooters of the 1960s and early 1970s, like the M50 & M65, but these were larger and were actual scooters with no pedal drive at all, although they do resemble the style of a moped. mopedarmy.com has alot of pics & info on both the Harley scooters & these AMF RoadMaster moped bicycles. I've had several over the tears, and seen many photos, but still have never seen any of these late 70s-early 80s moped bicycles badged as Harley Davidson.
Thanks for the comment & info!

They actually used one of my photos of my RoadMaster that I submitted to mopedarmy!
An auction I was at about ten years ago had one of these AMF Roadmasters In what appeared to be factory Harley Davidson Paint and decal motif. It was dark orange with stylized Eagle decals and black striping. Was labeled as a Harley Davidson.I suppose someone could have refinished it that way but it looked all original to me. At that time I did find another just like it on the web so assumed they did make some that way. If I remember correctly it was a slightly newer issue, possibly a year or two
It may well have been something custom that somebody had done with one of these. I've never seen one actually made by Harley in life, or on the net in pics, but you never know?
