This is Ricard's third lighter. As you have already guessed, it's a lighter to use in the car at the time when cars didn't come with their electrical lighters. So this came with an adhesive at the back of the case and you could stick it to the dashboard, and the lighter would be attached to the case by a magnet that's inside... really easy and efficient!
This model of lighter (just the lighter, not the case) seems to be a pretty normal "briquet" from the French Flaminaire lighters company and my guess is that Ricard just designed the case...
As for colours used in this series... you name them. They were made to match the car's outside colour, so I have seen them in yellow, light blue, red... I think these became very popular at the time.
