   I can't find any - any suggestions on where to look - I have gone over it with a magnifying glass and can't fins anything obvious....there are 5 different intricate scenes on the box - each scene on the top and 4 sides is different. Any suggestions on how to research would be greatly appreciated - it is very heavy.

   Hi Emeraldcitylady! This is a very interesting box. To start doing some research, it would be helpful to have dimensions, and more pictures, both inside and out. Sometimes hallmarks on items like this are nearly hidden/obscured by the designs on them so you'll really need to go over it with a fine toothed comb.. and perhaps a loupe. And any history that was given with the piece when purchased might hold a clue or two.

   Hi, thanks for the info! I really can't see very well. (Silver is so hard to photograph, isn't it?) Just to get this started, I'm offering my first impressions. Caveat: I know almost nothing about Dutch silver, or about silver jewelry caskets. These are just my impressions.
   
   I immediately thought that the scene featured in your photo reminded me vaguely of Rembrandt soldiers, but I can't see very well. Rembrandt's works are very popular images - one finds them on cookie tins, tobacco products, etc. Is this an old Spanish helmet, instead? My initial impression was that this is perhaps a Dutch nineteenth century jewelry casket. I suggest this very tentatively as a hypothesis! I attach below a link to images of Dutch similar caskets. I did find a reference to an antique Dutch jewelry casket that was hallmarked on the interior rim of the lid or box. Have you tested the box for silver content? It looks huge. If it is silver I think that it is more likely silverplated. By the way, it looks like your box has been cast - it doesn't look like chased repousse. Wonder if it's a reproduction.

   I have added 3 more pics - the box measures 6 inches tall, 6 inches deep and 8 inches wide. I am pretty sure it is silver plate. I will go to the link you added - many thanks!!

    Dear chinablue, thank you very much for your kind words. You are a super sleuth. I'd never have found that variant!!! I really think that I like the 'Feathered' variant better than any. Words like 'divine' spring to mind - before I resolutely banish them. Feathered is a bit too dear for my pocketbook, though my soul is sold on 'Feathered' 100% and pines for it. I am very glad that I at least got to experience it...Was delighted to have a look at your silver cup! See you soon! : )

    Hi, Bellin! I see what you mean now about the 'ticket' comment on my Halloween cat. Well, I love the lining on this piece! I haven't had much of a chance to look at the silver panels since they new photos were posted. As soon as I'm finished my Belgian correspondence, I'll revisit this item. : )

    This piece is isn't giving up much information, is it Emeraldcitylady!? Do we know if the edging is gilt or brass? Does it lock? I have been looking and have found similar ones such as this listed as French Bronze: http://www.antiquesnavigator.com/ebay/images/2010/330499353289.jpg

    You haven't shown a picture of the bottom, but you say there are no markings there anyway. Some of these type of pieces, if marked will be marked in rather hidden areas, such as in the design along the edge or the feet.. or even somewhere in the panels, such as along the horse's leg shown in the photo on the back. I'll keep an eye out for any others that I can find that are similar. I also agree with miKKo that this piece looks cast and is most likely silver plated and I too saw some Dutch pieces that seem to be made in a similar fashion. Additionally, I found several pieces with similar form listed as ormolu. So, it looks like we still have some research to do on this one! :-)
