Yeah, some more old Coke bottles! CW seems to be in a bind for new items since almost everything I see now is 1-2 yrs old & has already been discussed, identified & discarded so I'm going to poste whatever I can. To much hassle to weed out all that old stuff.
If more of use would poste new stuff, maybe the ancient postes' will fall to the wayside.

Bellin68, I'm just about to drop CW because of all the old posts that are being dumped on us to try and bring new life to the site. I'll poste a few things every few days & ask that others do the same so we can keep the site interesting instead of old posts that have been covered.
I'm asking that we all keep new stuff coming in so we get new life in CW. I don't know how all those scores of "dead posts" get reactivated, but it's ruining the site for me. Lets keep new stuff coming in! I know by communications, that I am not the only one who feels this way.

Tell me Bell--, do you think people are digging thru old posts or is CW dumping this worn-out stuff on us? If things don't shape-up real soon, -- I'm gone!

I dig through old posts all the time, usually the unsolved mysteries.
There have been some posts that I've seen for the first time because someone else was combing through the old posts.

I have tons and tons of stuff to post. Too lazy I guess to take time to get them on here or taking the pictures, downloading then uploading. You get the idea. So feel free to come on over here and sort and post for me! :)

Oh, I look & enjoy the old posts & read some of the old comments. Lot of great stuff in past posts. what I don't do is give a rating because it has just been shown & giving it a rating brings it right back up front. To me that is cluttering the current pages. If you lose your place in a book, you don't start on page 1 again.

Maybe some how I got switched to the other thread. I was unaware of the other thread. About 3-4 wks ago, all of a sudden what I saw was mostly old to ancient. I'm not real good with pc's so may have to ask for instructions. Don't know how it would have changed but hope that is what happened.

Must be referring to me, I can understand your complaint, but in retro-spec I have posted 28 new items in 11 days. And yes I lost all my older post, but were retrieved by the staff, have been removing the doubles and will refain from bringing them back to the top.
    8. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 11 years ago
No offense intended & I wasn't on the wrong thread. Old stuff has already been discussed & really nothing much to add to. Guess it's just me, but I don't rate anything over several mos. old because that brings it right back up to the top & creates what I call a "weed patch". Got so bad for awhile that I quit checking CW each day. Now, if I see a Colt Walker that's a year or 2 back, I'll rate that!
      Have a nice day.

The "old posts" may be new to some posters, so they get a "like", "love" or new comment.

I have been on here about 2 years, and I often find an old posting that I missed and find them just as interesting/ information as some of the new posts.

scottvez, I agree with you completely. I really enjoy looking at the stuff in old posts, but I don't rate them so that they stay up-front so they have to weeded thru constantly. I don't comment on anything over 3-4 mos. old as they have already been covered. If somebody has a good comment to add, fine, But to just give a "L.I." without thinking, puts it in the current "weed-patch" for everybody to sort thru. Not everybody has hours to spend weeding. Everybody has opinions and this is mine. Just pointing out a way to make things more efficient & time saving for others.

Let me propose this thought. If a "New" person come to this forum and post, Lets say a WW1 Iron Cross for example. And after you review and rate this "New" posting and you have a similar piece, wouldn't you leave a link to yours in the comments for this "New" person to compare theirs to yours, saving them hours of "Weeding". Then if they comment or rate these older posting, It brings them back to the top. A conundrum, to which is the lesser of two evils.

Sounds good to me(I had to look that word up). basically what I'm saying is that when an ancient post comes up, people start rating it AGAIN & it then becomes a "weed". I'm sure I probably did the same time when I got involved with CW, but then started noting that some items were up to 2 yrs old & stopped doing that. It's not hard to look at when something was posted & know when to "lay-off". Maybe I'm just an efficiency freak but also have better things to do. Didn't mean to stir up a hornets nest, but 1-2 yr. old posts seemed to load the system a short time back with no motivation from us that I could see. There was a rash of 9 mo. thru 2 yr. old post that just appeared in current stuff without any ratings or comments to reactivate them. You didn't notice? this is what stirred my original comments.

I hadn't noticed, but been busy restructuring my own page, as "All" my older postings have no ratings or comments. I will look over the last few days and see if I've overlooked the flood of older postings, as you've noticed.

I'm talking about a month or more ago. Since I started shooting my mouth off, things seem to be more normal now.
    15. kerry10456 kerry10456, 11 years ago
Okay, I'll keep an eye open for it, if it arises again, I know a lot of mine(older) posting are popping back up, and has comments , if any arise, I answer them accordingly. geo26e, has asked several question about certain pieces,as he is an avid "Character Watch Collector" and He's looking for answers. The "loves" and "likes" are just fellow collectors show their support of my collection, or I hope that's the case.

Your situation is different & not a rash. Don't worry about it as things seem to be back to more normal. It was just an unnecessary inconvenience. Think somebody got the message & glad I did what I did. Hope nobody is pissed off about it but it needed to be said. Have a nice week.
    17. kerry10456 kerry10456, 11 years ago
Thanks for the "Nice week" wishes and wish the same back, with a better weekend trumped in. I will be watching for the rash, if it reappears. Hopefully not.

I see a lot more "weeds" that aren't old posts.

I don't collect or care for certain items and often have to go through those things to find what I have an interest in. I do recognize that others may have an interest in these items. The same is true of an old post. Someone had an interest, so now it is back to the top.

It is part of the site. Limiting the ability of an old post to become new again hurts the new folks that join the site.

Just reviewing the pics on this post & as thought, have the labels backwards. The tall bottle is the Greenville, S.C.. This is the tall bottle that started screwing up the bottling machines in other locals & prompted Coke Co. to standardize their bottles, so came the "May West" bottle on the scene.
