The first image is from the Lackawanna Railroad's ad campaign for its Anthracite burning engine which powered The Phoebe Snow. Hard coal burned cleaner than Bituminous, hence less smoke and ash to dirty the riders clothes. There were many ads such as this extolling the cleanliness of the Lackawanna's Phoebe Snow.
