Cleaning out my Grandpa's garage and came across this piece of metal.
It's about 14 inches long
shaped like a spear
threaded cap in the end of it which opens into a cavity, has 2 small drain holes
only markings is "1 3/8"
Any thoughts???
this is either an irrigation tool - used for digging a pipe hole or the top of a lightning rod. i have both of those here and they look very similar to yours.
Thanks for the feedback. It is an unusual item so hopefully I can learn more doing some research online.
The ruling opinion among some engineers I know is that his was a pole socket. The threaded cap is to close it up when a pole isn't threaded into it. This would also explain why the only marking on it is "1 3/8".
These are "piercing nozzles" for delivering water into/through objects, used for firefighting!
