I never even heard about the 'gentian flower' before I posted this brooch. To me it was just a nice flower, period.
I must say, I dont have an eye for flowers or plants...every single living plant I had, died tragically. I usually forget to give them water. Even if I dont forget that, they still die. Dont ask me why.
I hope this gentian flower brooch will last. It probably came from Austria and it was made for tourists in the twenties or thirties.
I have its bigger sister, but that one has some damage to the leaves. So when I saw this little one a few weeks ago, I had to take it home with me. I think its celluloid with some paint. I love how the yellow 'pistil' is still intact!
    Hope you enjoy it.

I suspect that instead of celluloid, it's bone. I have a couple of ivory spoons, both with carved flowers at the top, one with an edelweiss, that have a similar rigidity to the carving.

Hey aeon, you could be right. I know for sure it isnt ivory but I hadn't thought about bone.
      Thanks a lot!
