Pennwood introduced the stylishly asymmetrical "Moderne" by 1940 and, after a mandated production halt during WW II, it was marketed through the late 1950s. Although no direct attribution has been found, it was probably designed by noted industrial designer, Peter Muller-Munk, who was responsible for other clocks in this line.

This later version has a marbleized pink Tenite case with maroon Tenite end piece and base, and brass trim. It was also offered in Ivory, Walnut, Gray, and Hunter Green, and is sometimes found with chrome trim. The "Numechron Tymeter" name appears under the display. The Moderne is also commonly found with the "Federal" brand name in gold letters on face.
