Bought this for 20 bucks at my favorite thrift store, I had it looked at by an appraiser , and he said he couldn't believe that I had found something like this for so little money at a thrift store, I told him I couldn't either.

Isn't it amazing what you can find & others do not realise what they had or it comes from an estate and over looked by others. Well done

Thank you Mankin, and yes Zowie you are right , I was told by someone in a forum site that finding something valuable at a thrift store is like trying to win the lottery, goes to show how some people don't know squat

Hey Patsy. If this is jade you might want to check out Christie's or Sotheby's archived sells. I think I have seen something like this before. I think I need to go shopping in Georgia! It's beautiful . I've bought pieces in thrift stores and flea markets and sold them at Christies. Passion, education and luck in that order finds treasures. That's only my opinion . Thanks for your kind words, you're a sweetheart.

Hi Thoscahaba , yes its jade , and thank you for the heads up about Christies .. and Sothebys I will check them out ...... Passion I have for sure -- education I am learning a long the way,-- luck I think I have good luck most times .. Thank you again :)

Could be Burmese jadeite. Clearer pictures would be helpful. If it is jadeite, definitely worth more than 20 bucks, but not thousands of dollars. Such pieces are worth collecting for a low price and value goes up with more translucent green in the material. Safer to collect something like that (better in terms of material and carving standard) instead of jrfm410's piece posted a month ago.

Davezq- I didn't say thousands of dollars, I said on AF that I can find things in yard sales, thrift stores, etc, from 50 cents to 1o dollars that I can flip for thousands of dollars , that is what I meant.. On this Jade I said I took it to get it looked at, and he said he couldn't believe I had found something like this at a thrift store . I'm very happy with the results of the appraisal, but when I buy something and the appraiser tells me that it is worth 5 dollars when I have paid 10 or 25 dollars on an item, then I really get mad at myself .. with this Jade, I can say I would make a good chunk of profit it I were to flip it.

Good for you in deciding to keep it as it can only go up in price & if the market does drop will always turn around at some point. I'm hoping I get the chance to flip & make some money if ever I work out how to go because I'm learning everywhere I also hope I get as lucky as you. When are you coming out here any idea

I want to create a site like this, but with more freedom for the visitors to say what they want and also if they want to sell their items etc. I think it would be great.....

That I agree with there is a site called My Bower but I seemed to have a few bugs with it when trying to post it just wouldn't stop down loading pictures when I wanted it could be I was doing something also. I went over that way a little while back & still had a hic cup so who knows. Good luck with the shop or store.

Just so you know, they made millions of these in the 60's, out of some other dyed green stone that wasn't jade. Your photos are never good enough to tell for sure though, so I can't help any further
