This is a small pen and ink I painted from a wood carved piece I designed. Fraktur is generally birth and baptismal documentation, but thousands of antique pieces are no more than just fanciful designs of small stature. I once restored antique Fraktur for the Mercer Museum collection in Doylestown, Pa and many reproduction works and original designs were offered when participating in the Doylestown Folk Festival.
A funny story: I was at the home of a collector delivering a woodcarving. She toured me through the "room" where she showed her artwork. I commented: "wow, you have some beautiful Fraktur in your collection!"
She gave a big chuckle and said, "get closer and look at the signature."
Yes, I felt pretty dumb at that moment; all of the pieces were mine. One of a kind designs I had made to complement my show displays of Carvings and Oil paintings. I had painted so many, their fanciful designs all blurred in my memory. No wonder I liked them enough to be drawn to my own work! lol
