      I am guessing there is not patent number because the general design was public domain, these types of whistles being around long before this one was made.

      Whatever the reason, Hudson supplied a great many of these whistles to the military. I've seen several photos of them, and none show a patent number.

      all the ones on ebay have numbers ?

      Sorry not to have seen your response till now. I just checked eBay and didn't notice any patent numbers, although a few like the Royal Irish Constabulary seem to have serial numbers added. I notice the word "patent" on a few non-military whistles, but not on the military whistles.
