Indeed Pietra Dura (translated hard stone)pietra dura, in mosaic, any of several kinds of hard stone used in mosaic work, an art that flourished in Florence particularly in the late 16th and 17th centuries and involved the fashioning of highly illusionistic pictures out of cut-to-shape pieces of colored stone. The resulting decorative mosaics were used primarily for tabletops and small wall panels but also, as in your case, for jewelry. Beautiful button!
