I have personally had this ring for over 20 years. It is 24kt gold with two small diamonds in the eyes and a ruby in the mouth. The kicker is that I actually found this ring in Maryland when I was 4 years old. On the inside of the band was Stamped "From South Africa 1900" I can only assume that the inscription is real since it is stamped and not engraved. my conclusion for that was the fact that one of the letters is off set in the inscription just a hair higher than the rest of the letters. (please correct me if i'm wrong in the conclusion) We had it appraised once at around $3,000 and that was back in 2006. the appraiser said that it would be a different story if the inscription was authentic. however I have had no way to verify it professionally. What makes this an interesting piece is that 20 some odd years later, after finding that ring, I married a native South African. She is my real treasure and I can't help but think this ring and its inscription was the forecast to my beautiful wife.
