    1803 axe head/ horse tool
    has 1803 chiseled into one side of it other than that no visible markings
    handel was put on later but the axe head is all original
    probably cast iron

      I would call that an ice axe. Not the kind used for mountain climbing, the kind the ice man carried when he delivered ice to you for your ice box. I know there are probably few here who remember getting ice delivered but the ice man had an axe like this. He would sometimes need to trim the corners. If you were good and kept out of the way he would give you the ice chips in a cup so you could eat them.
