This is a little 3 ince high and 4 ince wide cast iron pot.I don't know what it was used for and I know must cast iron pots come with a lid.

Possibly for melting lead. Maybe for bullets.
I think this is for a glue pot, the insert and possibly the lid are missing.
Glue pot for hide glue or hot glue, missing insert. These are like a double boiler, water in bottom, glue in the top. Do a google search for glue pot and search images.
