This bugle was brought home after the war by a marine who served in the occupational forces that maintained order in Japan after the surrender. The bugle is made of brass with a bakelite mouthpiece. It still has the original red cord and tassels which signify the Army. Normally there would only be two tassels, but for some reason there are four. Whoever surrendered the bugle smashed the bell before surrendering it. It was a disgrace to surrender, so the Japanese soldiers defaced or broke equipment rather than surrender it intact.
