Looks to be a Japanese sword. The grip is missing on the wood handle. The leather scabbard is not something I have seen before, but I don't deal with these on a regular basis-- I know enough to be dangerous.

The real value lies in handmade blades-- cannot tell from your photos if yours is an older handmade blade. The metal will have a wood grain appearance if it is a handmade blade-- perhaps some additional photos of the blade will reveal more details.

I don't see indications of a handmade blade, but the photo isn't that great. Do you see any grain or a long wavy line in the blade?

      Hi there,
Your sword is a very late war Japanese NCO sword, made then. It should have a 6 figure serial number on the blade and on scabbard throat. Hopefully they match, but they don't always. Looks like 70 year old cosmoline covers the blade which can be cleaned off and the lightly oiled. Very rare item and hard to find for collectors.
