Wooden Hinged Box with green felt interior.

I picked this up at a yard sale a couple weeks ago. It is a heavy wooden box with a gold painted finish (I think the paint is original) . It doesn't appear to be a jewelry box so I was wondering if anyone know what kind of box this is and what it was used for. It looks very old and has a name on the bottom but I can only make out a couple letters DOWO (middle part of the word). The dimensions are 12" x 6" x 4"
