I wanted to share this recent find because these are rare and quite pricey. These were mainly used for storage in the 18th and 19th centuries. I believe they are mainly made of cypress. It is one solid piece, hollowed out part of a tree. These are also called hornbeams. This one is missing the bottom, which I am sure drastically affects the value, but they are pretty hard to come by so I had to pick it up. Enjoy.

hotairfan thank you for the comment. I think they were kept inside the of the house, and used to store grain and wheat and things like that. I cannot say for sure, but I remember reading that somewhere.
I sure wish this piece had a bottom to it, they are hard to find and expensive. Last time I heard a shop by me had one for sale for about $500. This one was more affordable of course. I usually do not buy antiques that are incomplete but this time I made an exception. Seen anything rare lately? Take care man.
I would enjoy seeing a site that calls this a hornbeam as a description of the item.
