One of my most recent additions to my collection. It is stamped Nevada Consolidated Telephone & Telegraph and is dated 1920. I had never heard of the company before.

I collect some old telephone directories and I have only seen one Bell Telephone Company of Nevada directory in the past. Very hard to find. So I was fascinated by this telephone company from Nevada out of Carson City.

More information, and I hope it is useful to all of the collectors out there!

First, a little history about the telephone in Nevada:
    Reno:
Frank Bell set up a telephone line between his home at 110 N. Sierra and the home of his brother-in-law, C.C. Powning at 128 Second Street.  The exact date of the set up is unknown, with a general agreement of occuring some time during the 1890's.  However, the first installation of telephones in Nevada was made by the Francis Jardine Bell Consolidated Virginia Mine in Virginia City.  Frank Bell was a distant cousin of Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone.

    Carson City:
Carson City’s first telephone line was strung in 1888.
The Bell Telephone Company of Nevada bought the Carson City exchange of 437 telephones in 1920, which had previously been held and sold by the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company.
The Southern Nevada Consolidated Telephone-Telegraph Company building was built in 1905 in Goldfield, but telephone and telegraph lines were first extended from Tonopah to Goldfield in January 1904.  Seemingly, Southern Nevada Consolidated dropped the Southern Nevada, and was known as Consolidated.

Please refer to my post about the Utah, Nevada, and Idaho Telephone Company, to see how Consolidated Telephone & Telegraph was likely connected to UN&I and Rocky Mountain Bell. I am open to all comments!
