Item found in the old RR embankment in mid Menominee County, MI that was once the former Wisconsin-Michigan RR and abandoned in 1938. Before the W&M in 1894 there was a narrow guage line at the same location. Item appears to be a RR tool of some sort. It has markings of 'Dallas' and what appears to be 'DHH' below some sort of brand. '211' is another side. There is a slight bevel along one edge. Also a groove that tapers to a deeper pocket on both sides. Perhaps to secure a handle once it bottoms-out in the pocket? Can anybody identify? thank you!
Because of its mint shape I'd guess it's a type of measuring gauge

None of our sleuths have come up with an answer yet ? Might need to think outside of the RR angle.
It's a farm Implement type replaceable head
Could be a Tooth to a type of rock smasher chipper for maybe breaking down shale ??????
Those last 2 sound more realistic .

No oil wells but plenty of iron mines further north from which the RR did haul some iron ore. Mostly timber products though. It appears to me that the way the curved edge is beveled, on one face only, that it secured something, perhaps a RR car door? A slight taper to the edge leads me to that conclusion. It may have pivoted about that depression. Once securely closed the slot would somehow 'seat it' in position. There are no hammer marks so it wasn't beat shut in any case.
