I believe this to be some sort of jig but I am not sure. The only writing is on the two "masts" : "THE L.S.STARRETTE CO ATHOL .MASS. USA".
I have several other measuring tools from my dad's things manufactured by Starrette. It was easier to figure out the purpose of a micrometer. I am at a loss here.
    Thank you,

Thank you! I now know there are other pieces and I believe I have them. This falls into the category of things I can not use and no one in the family wants. That category is getting too big. I am going to post another picture and maybe you can help me decide if it is the same thing. Than you

The v-base is for setting on the matching lathe rail. A common use is with a dial indicator to check for roundness or flatness of things. Even saw one used to hold a cigarette for a machinist while working.
