I am trying to figure out if this Liberty nickel is really a 1912 S. For reference I have included images of my 1911 no mint mark nickel, then the 1912 D, and then, what I really need help with. Is that an S that got squished down, or did someone try and place a blob of silver on it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for helping me figure this out!!

I'm certainly not seeing an "S" out of it.

But it is bigger than both any D or S I have seen. Have you ever seen a mint mark that BIG?

More likely a D if it got squished down, as you say, and is a blob-shape (round).
These are nickel, not silver, by the way.
