Vintage walking stick

My Dad gave me this walking stick that he has had for years. As you can see, it's very old (1886) I believe the initials are "A.F." It's wrapped in leather strips and it's in very good condition. I have so many questions. Is it in fact a walking stick? Is it something that is very collectable? I don't know where to start to get it appraised. I wish I knew who "A.F. was. Thanks for looking.
