"Zenith Companion" Portable Radio. Circa 1924?

I think my father in law just picked up what seems to be a "Zenith Companion" portable radio at a local house auction.

I believe this is known to be possible the first portable radio ever. Circa 1924

Any idea on how to tell if this is authentic? Or where i can find more info on this?
