Looks home made . Wooden handle with wood pins holding holding handle on the hand or finger gaurd if u will? Looks gold very soft I can peel flakes off with my pocket knife.

Maple lake Minnesota near a small creek leading from a large pond . I'm a land surveyor , found it with metal detector. I will put som better pictures on . Thanks for your time .
During the Second World War many companies (including Case) produced a large "Bowie" style knife designated the V44 Survival Machete. A decade or so later Case produced a similar large Bowie knife for the civilian/collector market and it was in production for many years. Your knife is NOT one of these but the design is similar. Starting about the late 1970s this TYPE of knife was imported from Japan, Taiwan, and Pakistan, in diminishing levels of quality. The obvious thing that indicates that your knife is one of these later knock-offs is the guard. High quality knives similar to the military originals have thick guards with balls at the ends. Your knife doesn't have any balls.* The thin, sheet-metal guard on your knife (and a few other details) is indicative of a fairly late, inexpensive knife which would still be old enough to look like that if is was in the ground (it sounds like the conditions would be fairly damp) for 10 to 30 years.
